Welcome to AS#1, Seattle’s original public alternative school!

AS#1 is a small k-8 school located in the Pinehurst neighborhood of North Seattle. We enroll about 25-30 children at each grade level in mixed age classrooms of about 20-23 students each. Full day kindergarten, a commitment to social justice and equity, and a rich experiential curriculum that includes a wide variety of exciting field trip opportunities make us a first choice school for families throughout the city.

AS#1 is committed to working collectively with families and the community to offer a rigorous, hands-on, relevant education. Our efforts are guided by a core of shared values that include:

• Equity and social justice
• Including families in creating and sustaining our program
• Honoring our families’ cultures in our curriculum and activities
• cooperative, collective work that is inclusive of all learning styles
• Learning by doing and connecting children’s learning to real world situations
