Are you in the AS#1 Directory

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Lynn Pasley is a new parent as AS#1 this year and has volunteered to spearhead the family directory project. Please participate by filling out the directory form and returning it to your student’s teacher!

If you’d like to help with this project, please let Lynn know! She could especially use assistance with making follow-up phone calls (to families in your student’s classroom) and/or with inputting the form data into a spreadsheet.

If you have any questions, please contact Lynn Pasley at lpasley@mac.com or at 206-783-4322.

Summat for Nowt!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

…as they say in Yorkshire. It means “something for nothing” and that is what our Passive Fundraising campaign for AS#1 is all about.

Do you buy products from General Mills or Campbell’s? These big corporations own a lot of brands. So remember, when you break down boxes or pull off labels for recycling, look for Box Tops for Education or Campbell’s Labels for Education. Clip the tags, bring them into the AS#1 office and drop them into the little box on the front counter. We send them in and collect money for the school.

And here’s a new project which raises funds for AS#1 AND reflects our social justice values - Global Goods Partners (GGP). GGP sells fair trade products made in women’s workshops in communities where there is great economic need. They have lots of wonderful holiday gift ideas that are reasonably priced. If you are in the market for a gift - or a treat for yourself -just order from their website at http://www.globalgoodspartners.org. When you get to the “Show Basket” screen at checkout, click on the word “HERE” in the “Fundraising Program” box and select AS#1 from the drop-down menu. We will get a cut of 20% - 30%, and it’s 30% November 23 - December 4. Look for a catalogue in your kid mail!

Progress Report Survey - PLEASE READ

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Dear Parents,

Please click here to review the results of the survey parents and teachers did last week on progress reports. Teachers met and recommended choices 1 and 3. Site council needs to make a formal recommendation and confirm the two open parent rep seats before the BLT votes on this Wednesday morning, November 18th (new parent reps would take part in the vote).

Please remember that teachers need to get started on this ASAP since conferences are next week. It was understood at the progress report meeting that we could revisit the issue of progress reports more in depth if people want to form a sub committee to talk about future progress reports but teachers need something to work from for this reporting term.

If you can’t make it to site council you can ask someone who is to proxy your vote.

Thanks,
Megan (megaina@yahoo.com)
