BLT Meeting Coming Up!

The next BLT (Building Leadership Team) meeting will be taking place on October 6th from 3:00-4:30. All are welcome to come and observe the meeting (although only BLT members can vote on the issues at hand).

Help Raise $10,000 for AS#1!!

Don’t forget, there is another Husky Stadium Cleanup Fundraiser on October 11th! If we bring at least 20 people to all of our cleanups, we will raise over $10,000 for AS#1! We need your help, please sign up now (included for free are a great morning workout and an excellent lesson in waste and consumption!) :-)

Equity Committee - First Meeting of the Year

The Equity Committee brings together AS#1 community members to work towards understanding how institutional racism impacts AS#1 and to take collective action to dismantle it. We invite your participation, questions, ideas, suggestions, concerns. The groups meets regularly throughout the school year.

AS#1 Wins “Great Schools” Award

AS#1 is being given a “2009 Great Schools Award.” AS#1 is one of the 5% highest improving schools in the state of Washington.

The Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) along with Phi Delta Kappa Washington State sponsors the award. The Center focuses on action research, data analysis and support for the school improvement planning process. click here to read more about the methodology used to select award winners.

Representatives from The Center and Phi Delta Kappa Washington State will present Orchard with the award on September 26, 2009 at an awards luncheon at City University, Seattle’s Renton campus. The luncheon will be part of an Institute that will include presentations and workshops focusing on the question, “Schools of Distinction: What can we learn?”
